About
"The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence."
--Rabindranath Tagore
Language is the root of communication. In India there exist several languages. Infact, India is a country of diverse languages and literatures. Among them Bengali is one of the major languages of India, which has a strong impact around the world as far the literature is concerned. Bengali, considered as the sweetest language of the world, has produced literature bringing out the inner feelings of life at its best.
The Department of Bengali at Heramba Chandra College, started functioning in 1998, is a disciplined and well organized one. Initially the Department offered General course only for the Commerce students. From 1999 it started offering Honours course in Bengali. Since then the Department has been providing the students three years Honours course due to the increasing popularity of the college. From 2018 the University of Calcutta has introduced CBCS for this course. Accordingly the Department has decided to follow the newly proposed pattern.
Since its inception the Department has been growing day by day. Our department comes up with an ideal education of the Bengali Literature and language through the innovative and advance method making learning easy and lively. As a Department of literature and language it stresses on the creativity and the critical inquiry of the students. The Student–teacher relationship is excellent and the teachers always guide the students in their academic pursuit. The faculty members dedicate themselves to teaching excellence keeping in mind the modern curriculum.
Our Department not only focuses on the conventional issues of Literature, but also in most of the valuable areas of literature beyond the prescribed syllabus. The enthusiastic teachers encourage the involvement of the students in the other college activities along with the academic pursuit. The Department also arranges educational excursion for the students to make them aware about the nature and the other cultural background. Our department as a whole believes in the hard work to reach the desired goal just as Rabindranath said, “You can not cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” The Department with all its teachers motivates the students in the hard work keeping moral education as its basis. We believe in the real education that enhances the dignity of a human being and increases his or her self-respect and thereby works as a changing weapon of the world.
“Education is the mostpowerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
--Nelson Mandela.
