Course Undergraduate
The Department of Mathematics started its journey along with the Department of Commerce. In 1999, B.Sc. (General) in Mathematics was introduced. Since Mahtematics plays a crucial role in many subjects, so it has a great amount of dynamism. Many renowned teachers have enlightened the students by their excellent teaching capabilities. Among them, the most notables were Dr. Sourendranath De and Suranjan Saha known for their popular books at Under Graduate level. Now along with B.Com Course, B.Sc. (General) in Mathematics is taught as General/Generic Elective subject along with Economics (Honours) and Geography (Honours). The Calcutta University is going to introduce CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) for B.Sc (General) Course in Mathematics which will be implemented here from the academic session 2018-2019. Since there is a fear among the students about this subject the motto of the department is to eliminate that fear by taking the classes through Visual Aid and also by innovative teaching method. ICT based methods are used here to make the subject more interesting to the students.
